Commercial or Owner Operator Truck Insurance And Tornado Season

Georgia and other southern states have experienced an incredible amount of severe weather, including tornadoes this tornado season. The rounds of severe weather and tornadoes began in March, and they are still ongoing. While there is a known tornado season, we all know that a tornado can happen during any month of the year, and sometimes many are not prepared for the impact of a tornado.

Tornadoes can also occur in the late afternoon, early morning hours, and at night. What can this mean for commercial and owner-operators who are on the highways during various parts of the day? If a severe thunderstorm can happen at any time, so can a tornado. The tornadoes that residents have experienced in the southern part of the country have grown out of the severe thunderstorms.

One of the things commercial and owner-operator drivers may think to do if they are caught in the middle of a tornado is to seek shelter under a bridge. While some may think this is a safe thing to do, but it is not. An overpass can act as a wind funnel if you are caught in the middle of a tornado. If a gust of wind hits the overpass, the overpass will become funneled underneath the overpass.

If a significant amount of air finds its way through the overpass, the speed of the air will increase greatly. Can you imagine how powerful the wind can be when it is under an overpass?

If you are alerted of a tornado and there is nowhere for you to go, you can find a safe place in your truck’s cab. Remaining in your truck and not getting out will give you a better chance at protecting your body from any debris that may fly through the air. However, if you have a trailer attached to your truck, it can be easily thrown with very little force.

It is important to be able to receive weather-related alerts at all times, but especially during a busy tornado season like the one we are seeing this season. When you plan ahead of time, you will be able to think and act quickly whenever you receive an alert of a possible tornado.

Our team is dedicated to helping you navigate the busy tornado season in the middle of this unforgettable pandemic. Please contact J.E.B. Insurance Services, LLC with any questions and concerns you may have regarding commercial or owner operator truck insurance.
