Two Common Causes of Accidents with Commercial Truck Drivers

Accidents occur every day. While some are little, there are others that are quite serious. Unfortunately, the truth is that most accidents are avoidable.

In fact, there are many reasons why accidents happen. Here are some of the most common causes that you will see with truck drivers.

Distracted driving. Distracted driving is very common, especially with cell phones. Many drivers use their phones while they are driving, including texting. To do this, you must take your eyes off of the road, which can easily cause an accident.

Other forms of distracted driving include eating and drinking while driving, interacting with passengers, and even playing with the radio. When you are driving, you need to keep your eyes on the road and watch the people around you if you want to avoid an accident.

Fatigue. Many drivers push themselves to the limit in order to get their loads where they need to go so that they can get back home. However, being tired from driving too much without breaks is a big cause of accidents.

Fortunately, requirements were invented to protect drivers and keep accidents from happening. These requirements don’t allow you to drive more than eleven hours consecutively. In fact, you can’t drive more than seventy hours in one week.

Unfortunately, commercial truck drivers do cause accidents because they drive distracted (just as much as everyone else). They eat and drink while driving and use their cell phones to keep in touch with their family and friends. Fatigue is also a big problem with truck drivers. Before the regulations were put into place, many drivers would drive until they fell asleep in order to get the load delivered.
