Increasing Truck Thefts In Florida Should Prompt You To Increase Your Commercial Truck Insurance Coverage!

Even though it may seem unlikely, you should know that truck theft actually happens frequently.

In fact, an innocent ice cream truck was stolen at gunpoint. The truckjacker pretended to order a bubble gum flavored ice cream cone, then pointed a gun at them and commandeered the truck.

In Florida, “A 2000 tan Peterbilt 379 truck and 2001 Arnes step deck trailer” was stolen “…from a Days Inn [parking] lot at Highway 27, and Interstate 24 in Davenport, Fla..” Thieves are getting more brazen due to our tough economic atmosphere – they will not hesitate to steal almost anything, including an owner operator’s commercial truck.

Even more devastating, recently this month, a hard-working and reliable commercial owner operator truck driver had his truck stolen in Pompano Beach, Florida. He had been working hard, driving a semi truck for many years in order to move up and buy his own big rig. He had hopes and dreams that were almost dashed by one evil robber. He got off at a rest area on his very last delivery. His truck contained 44,000 pounds of Miller High Life beer – the truck was stolen while he was away. What’s worse? The news reports that this is actually an increasing trend in Florida: “[It] is the fourth such robbery of a semi truck in Florida recently: 180,000 eggs were stolen earlier this year in Fort Myers; a truck full of Hershey’s chocolate was stolen last December in Volusia County; and a truck full of Sl imfast was also stolen near Orlando.”
