Commercial Truck Insurance Offers Good News for South Carolina and Other I-95 Travelers

According to a study recently published by InsuranceNewsNet, it was determined that I-95 is one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the US. But, it also owns the highest rate of crashes in that region. These facts greatly affect the commercial truck insurance North and South Carolina, as well as Florida owner operators need to carry. So what can be done to reduce these statistics and help prevent crashes like those that occur in this area?

It looks like the technology industry for trucks is targeting collision avoidance. Studies being conducted demonstrate that fatalities on heavily traveled highways like this could be significantly reduced. Several companies are focusing on the development of truck collision avoidance technology that is created to reduce the prevalence of this type of accident. It has been estimated that almost 300 fatalities a year could be prevented with the use of this crash-avoidance technology on big rigs. This could further result in an economic benefit of $3.1 billion because of a lower number of crashes.

Drivers obtain should soon be feeling some relief thanks to new technology that is being introduced into the big rig industry. This is exciting news not only for truckers, but anyone who operates a vehicle on busy highways. The basic elements of enhanced speed control systems are available on many new cars today. These systems include automatic braking to help drivers maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

One new technology for trucks adds additional braking power when a forward collision is imminent. There is also a series of alerts when a stopped or stalled vehicle is in a truck’s lane. These audible warnings sound up to three seconds prior to the impact whether the truck driver has the speed control engaged or not. This type of system like would always be in operation when the truck is traveling over 10mph, with no means to turn the system off manually.

The new emphasis on collision avoidance for not only private passenger vehicles but also the big rigs should add to driver safety and help reduce the amount of collisions on highly traveled roadways. Hopefully, we will see a reduction in these types of statistics.
