Tips to Stay Awake On Long Drives

Many truckers spend days or even weeks on the road, without going home. Many spend the entire time feeling like they are tired because they don’t get to go home and sleep in their own bed. Even if they do get a chance to get some sleep in between runs, long drives can feel a bit monotonous and tiring.

Here are some tips to help you stay awake on long drives.

Don’t be afraid to pull over and take a nap if you are really struggling. It can be dangerous to continue driving if you are struggling to keep your eyes open. Bad accidents happen when drivers fall asleep behind the wheel so you might need to take a nap. It is much better to be a few minutes late than to wreck because you are too tired.

Stay as healthy as possible while you are on the road. If you eat the right foods, your energy level should stay about the same all day long. If you eat too much junk food, you might feel exhausted when these foods are digested. You should also drink a lot of water. Not only will you need to stop regularly to go to the bathroom, staying hydrated is a good way to fight fatigue.

Open your window. Many truckers swear by driving with their window open. They truly believe that fresh air helps you to stay awake, especially if it is colder outside.

No matter how important it is to get to where you are going if you need to stop and take a short nap, it is worth it. You don’t want to fall asleep behind the wheel because you could be facing serious consequences.
