Tips to Be a Better Commercial Truck Driver

Being a commercial truck driver isn’t always easy. In fact, it can be downright challenging. You just have to be careful and safe, so that you can make it from one location to another (and then home).

Here are some tips to be a better commercial truck driver.

Always, always, always inspect your truck before you leave. Though you may remember to check that all of your lights are working before you leave, you also want to take a look at your tires, wheels, and everything else. Walk around your truck a time or two to make sure that everything looks good before you leave. An extra fifteen minutes could save you a lot of time if you end up stuck on the side of the road!

You need to do the same when you get out of it. If you stop for fuel or just at a truck stop to take a break, it is just as important to walk around your truck. You are going to want to make sure that all of your lights and turn signals are off. You don’t want to leave them on while you are away from your commercial truck.

Always pay attention. It is important that you know what is going on around you when you are driving a big truck. You have a lot of blind spots so it is important to take notice of cars that are all around you so you have a good idea who might be in your blind spot.

Good commercial truck drivers pay attention. They always look at their truck and trailer before they leave and when they park it for breaks or at night. They don’t want to leave their lights on overnight and come back to a dead battery. They also pay attention to their surroundings while they are driving. They try to keep an eye on where cars are at all times, so they know when someone is in their blind spot.
