Texas Rig Insurance News: WINTER IS COMING! Go Beyond Your Normal Safety Walk

Autumn is here and that means winter weather is right around the corner. That means black ice, whiteouts and blizzard conditions throughout most of the nation. Texas big rig insurance company J.E.B. Insurance, LLC wants drivers to take this opportunity to go beyond your normal safety inspection and take a closer look at your rig. It’s better to be proactive about safety issues now than suffer for it later!

Big Rig Drivers Should Pay Extra Attention to:

  • Chains– have you looked at them lately? Are they even still in your rig? Fleet drivers especially might want to double check their chains; it wouldn’t be the first time another driver snatched company chains for a different company truck.
  • Speaking of chains– have you chained up lately? In fact, have you ever? Now is a good time to have a practice run. If it’s been a long time since CDL school you could check out some videos like this one for a refresher. WINTER IS COMING! It will be a lot harder to chain up when it’s -30 degrees during a whiteout in a mountain pass at 2:00 am.
  • Glass checks– these should be a part of your safety walk routine anyways, but if you’ve been squeaking by with a tiny chip somewhere now is the time to get it repaired.
  • Tires– again, this is a standard part of your usual inspection. With black ice in your near future, you should go ahead and get those new tires sooner rather than later. If you drive for an organization that’s a little slow on tire replacement, get that ball rolling now!

Texas Big Rig Accidents Affect Insurance Rates for Everyone!

Okay, so you’re Safety Sam! You’ve practiced chaining up twice, your tires look amazing and that windshield is a thing of beauty. Guess what, not everyone else has bothered. Don’t hesitate to nudge other drivers into checking on their chains and such. Go ahead and share this article on their Facebook page if you want to!

The fact is, commercial truck accidents drive up insurance rates for all the other CDL drivers in the state. Your insurance premiums go up when other drivers have accidents.
