Report Bad Brokers: FMCSA Launches Updated Complaint Website

Last Updated on May 5, 2026 by J.E.B. Insurance Services, LLC

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has unveiled a newly updated version of its National Consumer Complaint Database (NCCDB) — giving drivers, carriers, and consumers a stronger tool to report bad brokers, fraud, and safety violations.

This long-awaited update addresses industry concerns about the old system’s limited functionality and brings much-needed improvements in user experience, enforcement transparency, and complaint tracking.

What’s New in the Updated FMCSA Complaint Website

🚨 Expanded Complaint Categories

The modernized NCCDB now offers nine complaint categories, compared to the previous five.
One of the most significant changes is the dedicated category for freight broker complaints, which allows users to more clearly report:

  • Double brokering schemes
  • Nonpayment or fraudulent broker practices
  • Abuse or misconduct in freight transactions

💻 Improved User Experience

The updated portal includes a streamlined submission process, easier navigation, and digital tools designed for drivers and carriers on the move. The system is now mobile-friendly and optimized for quicker reporting.

⚖️ Stronger Accountability & Enforcement

FMCSA has pledged to use complaint data more effectively in enforcement actions against bad actors. This ensures the system is not just a reporting tool — but a compliance resource that drives industry accountability.

Why This Matters for Truckers and Carriers

For years, carriers and drivers have expressed frustration with brokers who manipulate loads, delay payments, or engage in fraudulent practices. Until now, there were limited ways to ensure those complaints reached regulators effectively.

The new NCCDB complaint portal empowers truckers and businesses to:

  • Protect themselves from predatory brokers
  • Document violations that impact safety and business operations
  • Contribute to a fairer and more transparent freight marketplace

How to File a Complaint

Filing a complaint is simple:

  1. Visit the updated FMCSA NCCDB complaint portal.
  2. Select the appropriate complaint category (including “freight broker complaint”).
  3. Complete the step-by-step form with supporting details.
  4. Submit and track your complaint online.

FMCSA also confirmed a Phase Two rollout later in 2025, which will introduce further enhancements and a possible rebranding of the system to better reflect its mission.

Trucking can be a very lucrative lively hood and with commercial truck insurance being at all time highs, bad brokers are eating away at your profits. Owner operators need to take advantage of the FMSCA NCCDB complaint portal and come together against bad brokers.
