Questions to Ask Yourself So You Buy Good Fleet Vehicles

Whether you are just starting your fleet business or you are adding to your current one, it is important that you take your time when you get a new vehicle. You need to make sure that you are spending your money wisely, while still getting exactly what you need.

How can you do this? Here are some questions that you need to ask yourself before you start shopping for a new vehicle (or trailer) for your fleet.

How much power do you need in the engine? It is important to know how much power you need before you start looking at commercial vehicles. If you are hauling smaller loads, a bigger pickup may be able to do the job. If you are hauling a box trailer filled with supplies, you are going to be looking at a big rig.

What type of freight are you going to be hauling with it? Do you need a regular trailer or would a flatbed trailer work better for you? Do you need a box trailer or one that keeps your load cold? Are you going to haul cars so you need a trailer that will haul multiple vehicles at once?

How much weight do you need to be able to haul? Each trailer has a weight limit so it is important that your trailer can support the weight that you want to haul. Are you going to be hauling single vehicles at a time or larger pieces of equipment?

Would you prefer a newer vehicle? Though the price tag on a newer vehicle may make you want to look at used ones, you really need to think about the improvements that have been made in the last few years. With fuel economy advances, it may make more sense to spend more on a newer vehicle because you will spend less money on fuel in the long-haul.

Before you start looking at vehicles and trailers for your fleet, you need to know what you are going to be hauling. Then, you can determine how much of a truck you need. A 3500 truck may suffice, though you may be looking at larger commercial vehicles. The same goes for your trailer. You need to make sure that you can easily load and haul what you need to.
