Commercial Truck Drivers: More tips to Drive Safely This Winter

Winter is not the ideal time to be a commercial truck driver. Not only will you have to deal with the colder temperatures, but snowy and icy conditions make the roadways a little more dangerous. You might also notice that there are some leftover leaves that are still on the roads.

You have to be more careful when you drive in the winter. Here are some more tips to help keep you safe.

It is important to drive as smoothly as possible. Smooth driving is much safer than sudden movements. If you break or accelerate suddenly, you may get into trouble. Instead, take your time and drive as smoothly as possible.

Don’t be afraid to get off of the road. Your safety is more important than getting a load where it needs to be on time. If it is too dangerous to keep going, find a safe place to pull off and wait the storm out!

However, you shouldn’t just pull off on the shoulder. The shoulder isn’t a safe place to be in a snowstorm. In fact, other drivers may try to follow you and hit you instead.

One tip that is not well known is that you should pay attention to the spray that occurs from tires. If you notice that there is a lot of water being sprayed from the tires, the road is wet. If it is less than you think it should be, it means that the roads are starting to freeze and you will need to be even more careful.

It can be challenging to be a commercial truck driver in the winter. However, as long as you are careful and drive smoothly, you should be alright. That being said, don’t be afraid to pull off if the road conditions are getting worse. It is much better to be safe than trying to get a load delivered on time.
