A New Era in the Trucking Industry

The Trucking Industry has constantly changed through the years. Gone are the days where a man takes a test, buys a truck and hops behind the wheel for a long trip across the United States. Trucking in the USA was the American way. People viewed it as an easy way to see the land while getting paid. From the late 1800’s when the government started to regulate transportation companies to the 1960’s when we created the Department of Transportation, trucking has evolved.  Through the years you have noticed the changes that have impacted the trucking industry in good and bad ways.  Changes that include the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico, the growing percentage of women truck drivers, rising gas prices, new driver hours of service rules, used truck pricing going higher, new technology allowing electronic logs to the latest roll out of the (CSA)  Compliance, Safety, Accountability.   On Friday, October 21, 2011 it is anticipated that we will have another new change in the trucking industry involving Mexico. The first Mexican truck is set to enter the US interior and deliver goods. The approval comes with certain safety standards that have to be met by the trucking companies which seem to control some risks associated with the pilot program. Some truck owners feel that with this newest change it is taking good jobs away in America by the thousands.  Depending on who you speak with will determine if this will be a good or bad change for our trucking industry.  After the anticipation of the first truck passes over the border on Friday we will have to look forward and wonder what the next change will be for the trucking industry.   To learn more about the pilot program
